High School Ministry @ Hunter Street

High school can be a challenging time in the life of a teenager. Our desire at Hunter Street is to help students develop a hunger to know God and to live for Him. We want to help teenagers become lifelong followers of Christ and help teenagers make him known to their communities and to the nations. Come join us for the journey . . . of a lifetime!

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:12-17

Places to Plug in:

1. Sunday School

Sunday school is the primary place where we engage students in bible study and community. Each teacher and class offers a unique approach to investing into your teenager and connecting you with what’s happening in that class. This is also the place where most of our first time guests attend. It is an opportunity for your students to be involved in the spiritual development of other teenagers. We have classes for every grade all three hours on Sunday mornings.

When: Sunday mornings @ 8:05, 9:30, and 10:45

2. Discipleship

Discipleship is a great time for teenagers to experience intimate small groups with a passionate leader. Our desire as a student ministry is to make sure multiple discipleship times are offered to meet the schedule of our ever involved teenagers. You will have the opportunity to decide the best time and place to grow deeper in their faith. Most groups begin in the fall of the year.

When: Contact office for available times.

3. High School Worship

This weekly gathering is a time for students to connect with others and with God. The music, teaching, and environment are created with teenagers in mind. Each week Smokey guides students through a passage in the Bible that relates to real life and real change.

The student building is a great place to hang out both before and after worship. We have video games, basketball, volleyball, ping pong, pool, and just great places to hang out and meet up with friends.

The café opens at 4 p.m. for snacks. The doors to worship open at 6:15 and we finish by 7:30.

4. Chi Alpha

Our Chi Alpha ministry is a core part of the student ministry. While not every student sings, every student can learn. This ministry track is designed to help students grow in music, leadership, and service. Our Chi Alpha participants will have the opportunity to sing in front of thousands in their high school years as well as minister to them through service and evangelism.

Our hope for every high school student is that they would go on a mission trip that teaches biblical truth and principles that last a lifetime. Every summer our Chi Alpha high school choir travels on a mission tour to do just that.

“…true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” ~ John 4:23-24

Chi Alpha meets September through May.

Visit the Chi Alpha section for more information.

5. Retreats, camps, and more

As a student ministry we constantly strive to create opportunities for students to disconnect from the world and focus on a personal relationship with Christ. Every summer we go away for a week to seek the face of God and to serve others. In the fall, we have our annual Fall Retreat to learn how to walk wisely in this world. Every Spring, hundreds of teenagers from across the area converge on Hunter Street for Disciple Now. We spend a weekend in homes, foster deep relationships, participate in a service project, and worship together all for the Glory of the King. So come on, jump in and lets grow together.
